UGLIES vs PRETTIES
I have such a huge satisfaction this week. I FINALLY FOUND THE TIME FOR READING AGAIN!!! haha,it may seem a bit weird to some people,but I haven't been reading since...since..."god-knows-when" and it used to be a favourite pastime of mine. I borrowed this book entitled "UGLIES" from the state library just across the street. I don't find it really interesting as the plot is quite dull to me...but it eventually got better. It has given me deep thoughts about being pretty or ugly and most importantly how people think.
'In a world of extreme BEAUTY, anyone NORMAL is UGLY' Is this how it should be? The pretties get all the centre of attention and spotlight they want, tend to be more noticable and outstanding whereas the uglies just seem to be invisible in front of everyone, as if they should be hidden somewhere in the darkness.
In this girl's world, she can't wait to turn 16 and undergo an operation which will turn her from an ugly duckling to a stunningly attractive swan. There's this interface ring which will bring out a menu on a wallscreen to give you a complete makeover. You can choose the features that suit you. Big blue eyes,high cheekbones,flawless skin,etc...et cetera...But her friend thinks that this whole game is just designed to make them hate themselves more....FOR BEING UGLY, for having the feeling of being ugly.
Well,I guess no matter how you've changed after an operation,you're just.....not you...right?
So people say we should not judge a book by its cover. We should look into a person's inner beauty. But still the first impression you have on someone is how he or she looks. Everyone wants to be beautiful, gorgeous, good looking. Well,most of them. But for what reason, you ask. Is it for people to like you more? Or just that when you look into a mirror,you have an infatuation for yourself to see a face so pretty or you feel more confident to face PEOPLE out there. PEOPLE WHO STILL JUDGE YOU BY YOUR APPEARANCE. You feel happy to get compliments. I have seen so many examples in school. We've only been to uni for 3 weeks now,and I've seen couples and soon-to-be couples everywhere. And you know what? They've only known each other for not more than just 3 WEEKS. To me, this is not a serious relationship. Do you even know him or her? How well do you understand him or her? I don't know,I just couldn't consent to all of this.
You see many guys around a pretty and she gets whatever she wants because the guys will do whatever she wants them to do. Why is that so? Duh....coz she's pretty?? She might even take advantage of them and yet they're still willing to do anything for her. Okay,so you're pretty,that's good right? Use it well then! But why do you have to be that flirty? Can't you treasure the good look that god or your parents have given you and change your attitude? When you finally show your true colours, even your intimate friends will leave you. Of course there's still some exceptions. Not all people are like that. Oh well, who cares? Live your life like that if you want~ But that's gonna be a recipe for disaster.
